Default RAF TC aircraft crash at Bahamas 9-10/43

    Hi all, another long shot...

A pilot being posted to Transport command in 1943 was based in Bahamas - Nassau between 14.8 and 2.10.1943.

In one file there is mentioned:

"He was in air accident 1943 at Bahamas and in this accident his passport was destroyed."

As everyone can conjecture - I would like to find the particular accident:-)

    Another facts:

    - in Crew Assignement card he is stated as 2nd pilot only
    - 3. 9 - 10. 9. he was on a flight to Accra and back, to Nassau he got on Liberator FL914.
    - 19. 9. - 26. 9. he was on a flight to Accra and back, to Miami he got with Air Transport Command USAAF plane
    - on 2.10. he left for Montreal by train

    My presuptions:

    - I do not know which types with two-pilots were flown via South Atlantic, but at least I know he flew there B-26 Marauder and C-47 Dakota so maybe the crash was also on this type
    - the planes delivered by him to Accra were OK so I suppose no crash in dates above
    - I checked MACR USAAF but no record with his name (as passenger)
    - I suppose that the crash happened between 14.8. - 2.9 or 10.9. - 19.9 or 27.9.-1.10. But I also suppose it was in the latest part of his stay in Nassau as when he left for Montreal he applied there for the new passport.
    - I suppose that the crash happened at/near airfield and that the crew (or most of it) survived but on the other hand plane may be destroyed by fire (as he lost his passport).

Any ideas, tips and advices much appreciated.

    TIA

    Pavel

    Hi all,

    looks like a difficult question...

I will try to make it more specific:

    - as he was with TC RAF I suppose the plane crashed at/near Windsor field
    - I have confirmation that at least he survied but the plane was destroyed by fire
    - I suppose it happened between 27.9.-1.10.1943

Anyone have information about any RAF plane which was destroyed in crash during delivery in this period?

    Any ideas much appreciated

    TIA

    Pavel
