Default F/L George Edward Hill 42126

MotBoB records this officer's death on 31/03/1944 whilst with 245 S. His death is registered at Biggleswade, Beds. Does anyone have a note of the a/c and serial please.

    TIA

Flight says KOAS but there is no corresponding Typhoon loss in Thomas & Shores' Typhoon and Tempest Story

    Henk & Amrit thanks.

That's the one! 'Cockayne Hatley' is in Bedfordshire (not Berks).

Have tried to look for the navigator but Geoff's Search Engine gives nearly 400 hits for this date.

    regards

Correct Dave. Bedfordshire was in my files as well, however typed wrong in my message.
Mea culpa. Have a good weekend,
    Henk.

Geoff has improved his search engine further in that the results screen now lists the unit so you can knock out all the airmen with units listed against them.

In the same Casualty list with Hill are:
    KILLED ON ACTIVE SERVICE.
    P/O. W. G. Allen; Killed this date
    F/O. J. T. Buchan; Not this date
Sgt. B. H. Dorn; Not this date
    Fit. LI. G. E. Hill; #################
Fit. Sgt. S. Morrison; Not this date
    P/O. D. R. Revitt; Not this date
Sgt. K. G. B. Scammell; Not this date
Fit. Sgt. B. Skeen; Not this date
    L.A/C. G. T. Williams. Not this date

and Allen is registered in Biggleswade, age 32.

    Dave,
Doubt whether F/Lt HILL was accompanied by a navigator; checked all names you brought up, deleted those I could find on other aircraft and what remained none of these was an Off/NCO navigator.
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Killed on Active Service

    Wiliam G Allen age 32 Bigglewade District Vol. 3 b Page 341 Index Q2
    Killed on Active Service
CWGC describe him as a Flt/Eng with no mention of Squadron. Could he be seconded from 35 Sqn in same fashion Hill was from or previously from 245 Sqn.

    Walter J Cox age 24 Chicester District Vol 2 b Page 483 Index Q2
Flight dated June 22nd 1944 lists a LAC W J Cox - Died on Active Service

Michael O'Connell - He is not on the Eng Wal register for Q2 unless there is a problem with searching for O', but he is not in Q1, Q2 or Q3, and does not appear to be in Scotland either. He is buried at home in Ireland however. Can't find him in Flight magazine just yet. Is he associated with Walter J Cox above?

    Neville W Rhodes age 21 Warwick District Vol 6 d page 793
Flight dated June 22nd 1944 lists a LAC N W Rhodes - Died on Active Service

Alfred Pavitt age 40 Battersea District, Vol 1 d Page 231
Can't find him in Flight at this time. His parents and wife are listed as from Battersea
