Default Commissioned into the Technical Branch

Would it be possible for an NCO Pilot to be awarded a commission in the Technical Branch?
I am looking at the carear of Sydney Walter Griffin 49536.
From his NCO number 363597 he enlisted in the mid 20's.
I have his date of birth as 13.6.1907.
I also have a Sgt SW Griffin flying Gladiators with 127 squadron in the Syrian Campaign.
Taking into account that 127 Sqn was formed from the staff of 4 SFTS,
Could these two men be the same person?
    Regards
    Andy

I did find another S.W. Griffin who was NCO aircrew and was awarded the DFM, but as a member of 9 Sqn and for an op over either Bremen or Brest. Regards, Terry
