S/Ldr (Pilot) Kenelm C.V. DUNDAS - DFC - MiD - 41000 - RAF (from Canada) - 211 Squadron (Palembang, Sumatra, NEI) - commemorated on Column 411 of the Singapore (Kranji) Memorial.

The Casualty - Repatriation files of the Australian archives listed Keeping and Flg Off George RITCHIE George 400543 aboard Blenheim MK IV Z7699 lost at "Kluang, Sumatra".

The file from Ritchie has been digitalized and is accessible online. Contrary to what is written in teh summary (lost aboard Blenheim MK 1V Z7586 between Palembang and Kluang, Samatra), the digitalized report shows that he was aboard Z7699.

According to the file, both Australian airmen were found buried beside a twin engined plane in Mankibol Rubber Estate, at Kluang, and reburied to Kranji War Cemetery, SIngapore, after the war. The body of the pilot, Sqn Ldr Dundas, was "not recoverable". The wreckage was identified by the serial number. The airmen were buried near it by the Japanese.

By the way, Kluang is in Malaya, 60 miles north of Singapore. The aircraft started from Sumatra but crashed in Malaya.

Firstly, Warner records no injuries to P/O Houdret and crew on Blenheim,T1885
Harper,36, registered at Amounderness, Lancashire. The area was formed out of parts of Fylde and Preston. Crosby is also Lancashire but is not on the list for Amounderness
Johnson,19,registered at Swindon, Wiltshire
Carr,24,registered at Fylde, Lancashire
Arn, registered at Thornbury, Gloucestershire the area that covers Berkeley
Mabel Jones,22,registered at Edmonton, Middlesex, N London
Neither Glen nor Plant came up on the register

Sgt T E Carr is DOAS in Flight march 26th, 42, name scanned as Sgt. T. E. Can; Searched for T. E. C and T. E. Ca would have found him first time.

There is a James Henry Plant age 35 on the Scotish register, Tingwall district of Shetland.

There is a 26 year old John Glen in Scotland but I ran out of patience and didn't drill down to the district. Some other time maybe.

Carr was killed in a car when it was involved in a collision with a Defiant.

No.3 SGR ORB:

February 10th 1942, “17.00 hrs Defiant T4004 piloted by P/O Tweedale collided with private motor car by perimeter track at A Flight dispersal. Sgt Carr, passenger in the motor car killed. Sgts Newell and Dove, also passengers in car, seriously injured. Pilot and car driver unhurt.”

No.256 Sqn ORB:

February 10th 1942, “Defiant aircraft involved in collision with car on perimeter track, causing the death of Sgt Carr (AG) serious injuries to Sgt Dove, and slight injuries to Sgt Newell.”
