    Hello Alan,

I believe your P/O Tweedale, is in fact, AUS404269 P/O Gordon Russell TWEEDALE RAAF DFM. Tweedale's presence at 3 SGR is confirmed in his A9300 at the NAA ( NAA: A9300 TWEEDALE G R p.9 0f 43 ).
Tweedale arrived (on attachment) at 3 SGR, from 43 Sqn., on 9-2-42. There is no mention of the incident in his files.

Tweedale was KiA on 9-5-42 with No.185 Sqn. at Malta, flying Spitfire VcT BR248. He had arrived at Malta by No.95 Sqn Sunderland T9046, on 21-2-42.

I thank you for this interesting, and unknown to me, snippet on Tweedale's career.

    Col.

Form 1180 for the Defiant accident throws up a few problems with what has been listed before.

Aircraft serial is given as T4041 of No.256 Sqn

1 killed and 2 injured in ground party.

Pilot is listed as safe and P/O Tweedale, 68132 so not RAAF but RAF

    Regards
