Default UK Airfield Google Earth Overlay

For those addicted to finding airfields in Google Earth, the following site has a downloadable overlay for 1,750 airfield former and current locations:

    http://www.homepages.mcb.net/bones/06airfields/UK/ukmenu.htm

Download the KML file from the above page to your Desktop and decompress with Winzip. Open Google Earth, open the file the usual way and save it as one of your Places. You can turn it on and off with the associated tick box.

    Hours of fun!

    Regards:

    Robert

Interesting but a quick glance at an area I know has some errors

RAF Weston Park should beJust north of Tong
Raf Knockin? Large munitions store 1 mile south at Kinnerly
Raf Bridgenorth should be at Stanmore park
X2TP Teddesley Park should be approx 2miles north
An American airman, was told at Briefing to ‘Go in at 30,000 feet and keep out of the flak.”
“If I go in a 20,000 feet, what will happen?’ asked the airman.
“You’ll probably be mentioned in despatches”, answered the officer.
“If I go in at 10,000 feet ?“ he asked.
“In that case you will probably get the Congress Medal”, he was told.
"And if I go in at 5,000 feet?’ he inquired excitedly.
“Don’t be a fool, man”, replied his superior, “you’ll go and bump into the R.A.F. at that height.”

    Wimpy:
Author advises: When I produced the original KML I warned users that the original 1945 WW2 data may be inaccurate owing to probable typo errors in the original documents, Lat/Long not aligned to the WGS84 grid and possible translation errors. Unconfirmed airfields were therefore shown with an asterisk to denote position drift.
He notes that all entries are being updated and a new overlay will be ready in a couple of months.
