LAC (WOp/Ag u/t) Douglas J. THOM - 1168707.

C - Also looking for the unit of:
ACW2 Phyllis M. DUFFIELD - 453274, whose name is commemorated on Panel 291 of the Runnymede Memorial (high panel number - grave lost ?).

D - Proposed aircraft losses for this day:
Blenheim I - L8684 - 54 OTU - crashed on landing Church Fenton.
Botha I - L6539 - 10 AOS - flew into high ground Cairnsmore, Kirkcudbright.
Oxford I - L4597 - 45 MU - crashed in forced landing Loch Laidon, 4 miles SW of Rannoch, Perthshire.

Douglas J Thom not in Q1 register. There is a Douglas James Thom in scotland age 20 in Minnigaff district of Kirkcudbrightshire. Perhaps on Botha L6539 ?

There is a 37 yr old Phyllis M Duffield on the ENG Wal register for Flyde district, Lancashire. A Phyllis Mary Duuffield was born:

FYLDE or FLYDE - what's correct ?
Have ROBSON and AISBETT and also F/Sgt Donald K. SWAIN - RCAF R/77513 on Hampden I (converted Hereford I) N9090 of 5 BGS (Canadian source for Swain: 6 AOS).

F1180 confirms 1 fatality, 3 injured on Botha I - L6539 - 10 AOS.

The pilot (Sgt Dixon) and nav were not strapped in.

Thom as W/Op u/t looks like the fatality but the death cerificate gives cause as fractured skull and a location some 5 miles from that shown on the F1180.

It looks likely that the F1180 location is a rough position with the death certificate giving a more accurate location.

Phyllis M Duffield died of myocarditis and lobar pneumonia in RAF Hospital Kirkham
