    Default POW detail .Poss. question for Ross or others

    178 RAF Liberator EW160 crashed 28/8/44 mining Danube -possibly Northern Yugoslavia
    Is there a way that I can check if these 3 men were POW

    Flt/Sgt V Ansell -pilot
    Sgt WS Barron
    Sgt PO Mayfield

    The rest of the crew are missing
    Sgt JD Jarvis +
    Sgt JJ Turner +
    Sgt AH Dunning +

    Hi Anne,

    The PoW lists from the Red Cross are only accurate to about March/April 1944. After that the onset of D-Day and the Russian advance meant that camp data was mostly out of date.

    PoWs after June/Sept 1944 tended to be held locally rather than take up transport space for transit to Germany.

    None of your men feature in the PoW file transcribed from Kew.

    I suspect that local burgher records for the crash site are your best avenue.
