Default ORB 124 Sq 24/9/41 Castletown

    Hi All,

I wonder if anyone has access to 124 Sq ORB? for 24/9/41

I have a Spitfire `Flotsam` Patrol out on this day in which X4108 crashed into a hill in low cloud in Rendal, Orkney. Pilot. Sgt R.H.Pauley. I have been told that there were two Spits on patrol and the other (Probably the leader) made it over the hill. Would anyone have the name of this other pilot and aircraft serial please?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Dave.

    Hi All,

I can now confirm from a letter from Sgt Pauley`s C.O. to his Mother that there were two Spitfires in the flight. I have still had no luck finding this other aircraft or pilot, so if anyone is planning a trip to the NA, a quick look up in 124 ORB would be very much appreciated. According to this letter Sgt Pauley was leading the flight at the time of the crash,so his No.2 would have been very lucky to have escaped crashing himself.

We have now put up a brief account of events of Spitfire X4108 on our group website, please cut and paste following to read this:

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Regards
    Dave.
