    Default Catalina JX264 off Orkney

    Hi All,

Would anyone have a crew for this aircraft please?
Also is the loss date correct?

Aircraft could be JX266 location in Air Britain given as Off Brora (How far?)
or JX259 off Durness but this was 12.1.45.

16.11.44 Catalina IVA JX264 From 210 Sq Sullom Voe
Flew into sea off Orkney: no other details known. Loc given in `Sky Over Scapa` by Gregor Lamb.

    Many Thanks.
    Dave.

    Default Catalina off Orkney

    Thanks Dennis,

These certainly look to have been from JX266 off Brora, I am in doubt that the Cat ditched anywhere near Orkney or a reference point further north would surly have been used, an error in `Sky Over Scapa` book list I think.

    Regards.

    Dave,

JX264 was sold to Phoenix & Clifton Iron Works on 10 March, 1947.

On 16 November 1944 JX266 flew into the sea during a low level radar training flight in pos. 58.02N, 03.43W (off Bora), nine crew missing (as listed by Dennis urke)

F/S Chadbourne is buried at Tain (St. Duthus) Cemetery and F/L Bryant was cremated and commemorated at Charing (Kent County) Crematorium. 281 Sqn ORB records a search for this a/c 5 miles either side of a line 090 degrees (True) Brora.

    Default Catalina off Orkney

    Hi Ragnar & Keith,

It would seem that `Sky Over Scapa` is in error, not only having listed the wrong serial number but also the location, no where near Orkney.

    Thanks guys!

    Regards.
    Dave.
