During November 1939 to October 1941 the artist Sir William Rothenstein made a series of sketches of members of the RAF of all ranks. Some of these were later published in a book by OUP in 1942. I am trying to find a copy of one of the portraits of the Australian pilot Virgil Paul Brennan the Malta pilot later killed in 1943. It does not appear in the book which I have, the RAF museum at Hendon list some but not him, although some are listed as unnamed.
The Australian archive has a letter dated 30/06/1943 from the Royal Australian Airforce based at Kingsway London, sent to the Department of Air Victoria Barracks Melbourne Australia asking that they pass on an enclosed photograph of the drawing to his mother.
It states the original has been acquired by the Artists Advisory Committe of The Ministry of Information for the permanent records of the war.
Does any one have any idea where this original may be now, or a copy ?
