E.A. Cummings, killed 3-9-39

What were the circumstances and aircraft involved (if any) in the death of
40803 Ellard Alexander Cummings (commissioned in RAF, 7 May 1938, killed 3 September 1939) ?

Pilot of Westland Wallace K6028 (ex 1 AOS), crashed on Bruntwood Tap, Bennachie.

The other occupant of the a/c was discussed not that long ago.

I visited the crash site of this Wallace in September 2007, it is believed to have crashed due to poor weather conditions/visibility. There has been talk of placing a memorial to the crew on Bennachie although I am not sure if the project has been shelved or is ongoing.

Just to update. A memorial cairn was unveiled on Bennachie on 2nd September 2012 to commemorate the crew of Wallace K6028, PO Ellard Cummings and LAC Ronald Stewart. It also commemorates the pilot of an RAF Meteor pilot, JB Lightfoot who died on the same hill in 1952.

The poignant ceremony took place on the hillside of Bennachie, between the two crash sites, in bright sunshine with a light breeze and was attended by around 80 people including relatives of all the airmen.
