    Default Tom Gleave's claims 30 August 1940

    Hi guys

As most will know, Sqn Ldr Tom Gleave of 253 Squadron claimed a total of five Bf109s on 30 August, four in one sortie. He was awarded probables only for the latter. In Mason's book he is listed with four Bf109s of I and III/JG27. In my 1st edition of BoB Then & Now, they are not credited.

What's the latest thoughts on this?

    Cheers

I have little doubt, that if those losses could have been linked to Gleave's claims, they would in the T&N series. That said, any such tie ups during the period are highly speculative, as usually several pilots fired at the same aircraft, even if no positive identification is possible.

    Hi Franek

Looking at claims for Bf109s by FC on that date, and checking against losses, it would seem a distinct possibilty that he did account for the JG27 losses!

The Blitz T&N attributes both JG27 aircraft to crash on British soil to 603 Sqn. I understand it is gentlemen and Spitfire Squadron, but at least it shows there were other claimants around.
