Default RNZAF pilots at Photo Reconnaissance Units

    Dear all,

I wonder if somebody can provide the full first names and service numbers of underneath RNZAF pilots:

    Sgt Donald R. I. Hardman (1 PRU)
    P/O (later F/Lt) R. C Buchanan (1 PRU & 542 Squadron)
    P/O (later F/Lt) W. B. Parker (PRU & 542 Squadron)

    Thanks in advance,

Roy Buchanan features in the book on ANZAC Spitfire pilots published some years ago by Ventura Publishers.

    Hans,

    (RAF) 36259 Parker, William Baker

Note that he was a New Zealander in the RAF. He was selected for an RAF short service commission in New Zealand prewar and trained to wings standard by the RNZAF, then transferred into the RAF upon arrival in the UK in April 1940.

    Hello again Errol,

Thanks for your comments on P/O Parker. I would never have thought about the possibility that he was transferred to the RAF!

    Best wishes,
    Hans

    Hans,
May or may not be of great interest, but (ex Wing Commander) R C (Roy) Buchanan, DFC, US Air Medal, ended up as the Director of Christchurch International Airport (October 1975 - 1980). He was born at Mataura (Southland) New Zealand 15th May 1921. I believe he died only a few years ago. There is an excellent photo of him in his capacity as Director in the book "With Great Foresight" by Tony Phillips (published by Christchurch International Airport Ltd, 2006, page 119).

    David,

As the old saying goes 'rumours of my death have been greatly exagerated'!

Roy Buchanan is still alive and well and living in Queenstown'

There I go again, relying on something I was told about somebody some time ago, and seem to have got two unrelated events mixed up! Thanks for that Errol.
