    Default F/Sgt J.B. THOMAS - RAAF 16696

Looking for more info on the death of F/Sgt John Bullfinch THOMAS - RAAF 16696, who was killed 5-6-1945 and lies buried in the Plevenon C.C., Dept. Côtes-du-Nord, France. NAA has him on Lancaster NN799 of 460 Squadron, however this aircraft was not a loss. Also not listed by Chorley in his Vol.9.
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Henk,
He was on board NN799 which was on a cross country flight over France when he baled out (no given reason) ORB states.
    (Typo corrected, thanks Henk.)

Sorry Alan, forgot to mention your typo re the serial number (MN799 was a Typhoon). We know it must be NN799.

    Henk,

Here is the crew of NN799:AR-M, on 4/5-6-45, with a note on Thomas.

AUS434498 P/O (Pilot) Saxe Eric COVERDALE RAAF
    1684275 F/Sgt (Flight Engineer/Pilot) A MADDOCKS
AUS436729 F/Sgt (Bomb Aimer) Leonard Harris DUNCAN RAAF
AUS436506 F/O (Nav.) Pauric Denis LANE RAAF
AUS430587 F/Sgt (2nd Nav.) Robert George BATTY RAAF
AUS436695 F/Sgt (W.Op./Air Gnr.) George Richard CRUTE RAAF
AUS430977 F/Sgt (Mid-upper Gnr.) Keith Henry McLEAN RAAF
AUS16696 F/Sgt (Rear Gnr.) John Bullfinch THOMAS RAAF +

Thomas must have left the aircraft over the sea, as his body was washed ashore on 27-7-45, 'near' the village of Plevenon.

    Col.
