    Default Downed airmen

    Hi,

I would like to know if it exists in the British Archives an equivalent of the USAAF “Escape and Evasion Reports” for the English aircrews and at which place/address I can order them?
    Merci.

    Best regards from France,
    Fred

    Fred,
They most certainly do, under N/A reference WO208, if you have certain airmen in mind, it might pay to post their names and units, as some of the members might already have the reports, i have a few in my files. Also, if the airmen concerned are from Bomber Command, a lot of us have BC Losses which give the N/A reference numbers for individual airmen.
    Regards...Alan

It would also be worth mentioning any names because we can look them up in Clutton-Brock's superb new book "RAF Evaders: The Complete Story of RAF Escapees and Their Escape Lines, Western Europe, 1940-1945". Like his previous book on POWs, CB has included a lot of information on escapers/evaders, networks etc

    Hi Fred

The E&E reports for Eric Wood Brearley and George Hildred Hirst are not amongst those held/available at Kew. As you probably know, both were members of the crew of P/O J.Y. Clarke and were shot down en route to Nuremberg on 27/8/43

    Cheers

    Eddie

There are about 5 very descriptive pages in the Oliver Clutton-Brock book "RAF Evaders etc " [as Amrit has written] devoted to the men you have listed, amongst others. Pages 239-243 pages in Chapter 10 Evasions :January-September 1943.

It might be worth trying to get a copy of it ?
