From a post on the old message board: 5135N 0529E. I think that is degrees and minutes, but wait expectantly to be corrected.

    Thanks Bill
The co-ord seem to be in the right area.
However there is no trace of an airfield on Google earth.

    Default Airfield Location

    G'day Andy

Your airfield is roughly 34 nautical miles southwest of Nijmegen and 11 nautical miles due north of Eindhoven.

    Cheers...Chris

Just received some additional information on B.85, via this e-mail:

    Hy Bill,

Reading RAF commands I noticed that Andy Ingham asked for the coordinates for B85 airstrip in Schijndel.

As a inhabitant from this village I can tell you that this strip is completely vanished and except a name like "vliegveldweg" = "airfieldroad" there is nothing to find of this field.

But asking my elder brother, who visited this field frequently in 1944 to watch the pilots and their spit's and tempests, I can tell you that the coordinates are roughly

    between N 51:36'17" and 51:36'29"
    and E 05:27'38" and 05:29'00"

South of the village of Schijndel and also south of the railroad.

Small village of Eerde is just east of the former field.

Please can you inform Andy Ingham. I'am not authorised to write on your forum.

Thank Bill and pass my thanks on to Jan.
This was just what I was after.
I wonder if Jan knows anyone that may have any photos of the airstrip?
    Thanks again
    Andy

    Default B85

Squadron 74 was based on this strip.
    See their homepage: http://www.74squadron.org.uk/index.htm

In their archive there must be a lot of pictures.

    Dear all,

There are some more pictures to be found at this site:
    http://members.home.nl/gabyvanschijndel/Oorlog/Vliegveld/Vliegveld.htm

and also in this book review (page 26):
    http://books.google.nl/books?id=880o3Wwzn0MC&pg=PA27&lpg=PA27&dq=spitfire +322+lf.mk.xvi.e&source=bl&ots=UnCwtNg6jS&sig=qBVi HJ0QiVcYZvcct_LXtfhVBW0&hl=nl&ei=Dew_SsnVHcjb-Qbhs9itBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=10

At the time, a RAF airman was housed at my grandparents home.
I will have to ask my father for more details.

    Regards,
    Ruud

    Thank you Rudd
My cousin was with 127 Sqn at Schijndel in 1945.
If you have more info please contact me at andy@127squadron.co.uk
I am writting a book about 127 Sqn and any info about their time at Schijndel will be useful.

    Hi Ruud,

Do you know if these prints (http://members.home.nl/gabyvanschijndel/Oorlog/Vliegveld/Vliegveld.htm) are taken from a local book or come from private archives ?

Like Andy I have some interest with B.85 because Wing 145 and more specially 341 sqdn (FF) posted here in march/april 1945.

    TIA

    Bertrand H
