    Default Grave of Gunnar Fosse

Can anyone help me with this one.
Norwegian pilot Captain Gunnar Fosse was hit by ground fire and was killed on 30.10.44 while on an armed recce in the Dordrecht area.
I am trying to establish were he was initially buried.
I am aware that his remains were returned to his home town of Bergen after the War.
    TIA
    Andy

    Hi Andy
I don't know if this helps but he is recorded in 2nd TAF Vol2 as being shot down by Flak at Walcheren-Gorinchem.It is possible that he was initially buried somewhere locally either by us or the Germans depending on the status of Walcheren Is wrt the front line. I don't think that Walcheren was liberated until Nov '44.

    Andy,

Capt. Gunnar Fosse apparently came down in the little village of Nieuw- en Sint Joosland, a few kms east of Vlissingen (Flushing) on Walcheren Island.

Have no info if he was buried there initially.

    Regards,

    Leendert

    Default Grave of Gunnar FOSSE

    Andy,
I've on file that Kapt Fosse was involved in an armed recce to the Dordrecht area and was hit by groundfire near Gorinchem. He crashed with his Spitfire NH479 on land of Mr. Verhulst, Binnendijke (name of a road) at Lewedorp, about 08.50h. First buried in a fieldgrave near the crashlocation, later exhumed and reinterred at Lewedorp. His remains are now at Bergen, Norway.
    Regards,
    Henk.
