    Default F/Sgt A.S. McPHERSON - 657904

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=1079726 has F/Sgt Alan S. McPHERSON being killed 23-8-1943 as a member of 306 (Polish) Squadron.
A Polish informant told me that no Polish Fighter Squadron ever had any British/Commonwealth NCO pilots.
What's in the GRO list for F/Sgt McPHERSON ?
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Hi Henk,

I remember looking at this a while ago and deciding it was a misprint for 306 FTU.

As a Sgt he was listed as pilot of OADU Beaufort JM499

3 other crew names needed as Form 1180 lists 4 killed

Looks like he survived a previous ditching

    GRO has him as
    MCPHERSON Alan S FLIGHT SERGEANT 657904 306 FTU 1943

None of the non squadron, no unit men listed on CWGC for this date, RAF/RAFVR are listed as 306 FTU or OADU etc.

Only other 306 FTU men on the GRO seem to be 23 May 1943. Course, the problem is not all units are transcribed on this database I have.

R W Harris on the Malta Memorial for 23 uagust 1943 is 1676 Flight per GRO index.

One other "306 Polish" man for 1943 is listed Alban E Sinnott Cpl. 1052005 from 19/12/1943, he is listed as 306 AMES, buried in Myanmar/Burma

And final man is LAC George F Sanderson buried in Karachi listsed as 306 Polish but GRO just lists him as 306 Sqn. Date 11/01/1945

A F/Lt H W Tennant si buried in UK for 24/12/1940 but I expect he is an actual 306 Polish caualty.

Thanks Dennis for your assistance to solve the puzzle on McPHERSON; I'll inform CWGC.

Yes, he is. A British officer posted as flight commander during the initial period when commanding posts in the squadron were doubled by both Polish and RAF officers.
