    Hi
The date of his death is in fact the night of the 28/29-7-44 and the target was Stuttgart. The a/c was Lancaster III,ND797, LE-N, the a/c was brought down by a nightfighter and crashed between Magstadt and Sindelfingen. 3 of the crew jumped out of the a/c but only 1 survived to become POW,it is not clear whether they baled out or got out after the crash. Those who died were buried at Magstadt but were moved, probably post war, to Durnbach War cemetery
The source is W R Chorley, Bomber Command Losses, Vol 5 and he is recorded in the crew listing as being the Rear Gunner.
    Regards
    Dick
