    Default Halifax V LL293 8A-P or LL294 ??? - 15 Oct 1944

    Hello,

    Halifax V LL293 is given for 15 Oct 1944 .... also LL294 in some sources
    What's the right number ?

    Halifax V LL293 8A-P - F/O W. B. TAYLOR - 02:00 - near Stavoren
    298 Squadron - RAF - 15th Oct 1944 - Mission: SOE arms drop Emmen area
    1 KIA - 5 EVD
    PATS - Vollenhove - The Netherlands

    Colin Cummings in his book 'Though Without Anger' gives....

    15 October 1944.
    Halifax V LL293.
    298 Squadron.

    RAF Evaders (Clutton-Brock) also gives LL293.

    Thanks for this confirmation of LL293.

    According "The Halifax File" LL294 was of 518 Sqd as soc 19.2.45
    don't have the book - can someone confirm this ?

    I can't answer your query, but I have a few random pages from the 518 Sqn ORB, and LL294 was with 518 on 9 November 1944. I'm wondering if this was the aircraft that came down on the beach just after take-off on 3 Dec 1944? It was recovered but I suppose it's possible it couldn't be repaired. See thread at

    Hello,

    LL294 - 518 Squadron - Showing up on 9 Nov 1944 and 19 Feb 1945
    So it's clear that Halifax V LL293 8A-P - crashed 15th Oct 1944 near Stavoren.

    Btw what means the abbreviation soc ?
