    Default 89 Squadron Airman

I would like to know the details of the death of Roy William ALMOND 1379251 on 5-1-1943. He is shown to be 'killed on active service', and is buried in Moascar War Cemetery, Egypt. The squadron was flying Beaufighters at the time and Charles COSTELLO 1307223 of 89 Sqn also died that day. What aircraft was he in (assuming it was a crash) and what were the circumstances?

    Many Thanks

    They also lost F/Sgt D L Harris (pilot per CWGC) 4B11 and W/O J R Phillipson DFC 1C2 (W/Op /Obs) same date.

Including F/Sgt Almond (Obs) 1E16, Cpl. Costello 1B10

Graves are not consecutive as such. Costello is wrong rank for aircrew? and has not trade against him on CWGC.

Gazette Issue 35911 published on the 16 February 1943
Warrant Officer John Ross PHILLIPSON (650678),
    No. 89 Squadron (since deceased).
Warrant Officer Phillipson has invariably displayed
outstanding skill and courage during air
operations. Recently as observer he participated
in the destruction of 3 enemy aircraft. His
determination and gallantry have been an example
    of the highest order.

    Hi Gents,

The F1180 for X7691 gives Harris as pilot and lists 4 killed in total on the non operational flight.

So looks like all four men now accounted for along with cause of death.

    Regards
    Ross
