    Hello Pete,

Spitfire AB965 was a presentation aircraft, 'PALEMBANG OELOE III', hence:

Taken on charge at No.45 MU Kinloss on 13 September 1941. Mk.Vb AB965 was allocated to No.501 Sqn at Ibsley on 26 September, flying sweeps, Rhubarbs and Roadsteads. Plt Off P.J Stanbury claimed a Bf109E damaged five miles north of Barfleur on 16 October. However, on 27 March 1942 the pilot lost control during a practice interception and his aircraft spun into the ground near Brockenhurst, at No.14 Railway Crossing, near Ringwood, Hampshire. Sgt S.A.Childs was thrown out but parachuted safely, being slightly injured.
