    hello Linda,

Squadron and date rang a bell, but nothing important for your research : when Halifax III HX230 BM-P was lost, the now vacant P was given to LV966, which crashed in Saultain, near Valenciennes (France) during the night 14/15 June 1944. LV966 was named "Pride of the Porcupines". Hence my little interest in it. Not much help though.

    Default FTR Ops

    G'day Linda

According to official R.C.A.F. documents, the McKay crew aboard Halifax BM-P failed to return from ops. It's anyone's guess as what happened to the aircraft or where they crashed. If I had to guess though, I'd go with night fighters. There were a number of fierce engagements with Luftwaffe night fighters that night. At least seven aircraft were confirmed to have been lost in this manner. Flak was also vicious, so who knows.

    Cheers...Chris

From my notes HX230 was "BM*B" when lost on 19/20 February 1944. Sorry, no more details other than entire crew lost. Other RCAF losses I know of on that raid were:

    JD114 VR*V 419 Sdn
    JD271 NA*M 428 Sdn
    LK662 AL*Q 429 Sdn
    LK905 SE* 431 Sdn
    LK963 SE*H 431 Sdn
    LK974 AL*Z 429 Sdn
    LL255 WL*V 434 Sdn
    LL257 WL*Z 434 Sdn
    LV829 ZL*D 427 Sdn
    LW327 VR*A 428 Sdn

for a total of 11 losses?

Reported lost on the same night on a raid to Frankfurt was LK995 from 429 Sdn, but this may be a typo.

    Default Op: Leipzig

    G'day Bill

No. 6 Group lost 18 aircraft on the op against Liepzig.

    LK885 is indeed a typo. It was Halifax Mk. V s/n LK-993, AL*J

    Cheers...Chris

Failing the information popping up here have your requested the RCAF crew members service records from

    Personnel Records Unit,
    Library and Archives Canada,
    395 Wellington Street,
    Ottawa,
    ON K1A 0N3
    Fax: (613) 947 8456

    http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-909.007-e.html

Since they are all buried in Berlin War Cemetery there may well be burial files indicating where they were found in their records.

My mistake Linda, it is "BM*P". That's what happens when I type too fast.
