Default Godefroi, escape attempts from Stalag IXc.

    Guys,

In both James McCairn's and Derrick Nabarro's escape and evasion report, they mention a Belgian whose christian name was Godefroi. He ascaped with Nabarro but assisted McCairns and indeed my Father in earlier escapes. During the war he lived near Libramont.

Can anyone give me any further info.

    Regards,

    Nick

    Hello Nick ,

When i checked the names off Belgians who were in the UK during the war i found these names :

    Army :
    Godfroid Fernand
    Godfroid Raymond

    Navy :
    Godfroid Pierre ( S/S Katanga )

    Air Force

    Godfroid M ( ground personel )
    Godfroid H 1889852 ( flying personel )

Do you have a first name of that man , or some more info ?

    Alain,

I think this chap was a Blegian soldier as he was in a working party at the time which would fit this better. There is nothing further to add from either Willian Halls book 'A flyers Tale' or Derrick Nabarro's book ' wait for the dawn'. In this later book, they say that Godfrey's (another spelling!!!!) home was at a small village between Bastogne and Namur. They mention a cafe called 'Le bon Cure'.

I have no other details at this point.

    Regards,

    Nick
