Default Butterworth's "With courage and faith: The story of 18 Sqn"

Does anyone have a copy of Butterworth's 1989 book "With Courage and Faith: the story of 18 Squadron"? Before I order it from my library I'd be interested to know how much coverage it gives to the Squadron's WW1 history.

    hello,

I have it, having bought it from Air-Britain at a bargain price.

It's actually quite a slim volume compared to other Squadron Histories they have published. It's 64 pages in A4 size. WW1 is about 8 pages long. Text seems good, and a few pictures to go with it.

    Hope this helps

Hi, with reference to the book, do you know if P/O GW Sims is mentioned in the text?

    hello Ravrick

There's no name index. Can you narrow down a little so I can check in the main body of the book ?

Hi, many thanks, he was serving around 1941/42, he was involved in tha actions that W/C Malcolm won the VC in Nov/Dec 1942, he also participated in some raids on Holland before they moved to North Africa.

    Cheers, Rick

    hello,

While the book was on my desk, I actually read quickly this part about the VC award and this very deadly mission before you asked your question. Will read it carefull again and will post tonight from home. Don't expect too much...

    hello,

I've quickly read the book to cover the period from the second half of 1941 until spring 1943, but couldn't find his name in the book. Sorry.
