    Default Unaccounted airman - 27-6-1940

    What caused the death of F/Sgt William D. SHERIFF - 362166. His name is commemorated on Panel 11 of the Runnymede Memorial.

    I can trace him to belong to 72 Sqdn. Service number 362116?

    Spitfire loss or death caused by other circumstances?

    Name correctly spelled SHERRIFF and svcnr 362166.

    Flight Global has Service # as 362116 (which is a typo) CWGC has 362166 (correct)


    Service # 362116 was Sergeant Leslie Frank PAYNE.

    I've Leslie F. PAYNE as an NCO killed 15/16-10-1944 on Lancaster NG143 of 207 Sqn and his svcnr 1491571 !

    There were at least two Frank Leslie Payne's - Sgt Frank Leslie Payne 362116 became an Pilot Officer on probation in class A. in 1937. Officer # 70525 and retired in 1945 as Sqn Ldr
