Default Sinking of U-675 by 4OTU Sunderland 24.5.44

The Sunderland was captained by Flt Lt T. F. P. Frizell, RAAF.

Would anyone have a record of the other crew on board, please?

Flt/Lt Frizell was on board ML736 as instructor with 4(C)OUT on that mission with WO MacDonald (RNZAF) and crew who later went to 490 Sqn RNZAF

Information from the World War Two Nominal Roll is that F/Lt Frizell was born in London on 9th December 1918 and was on 102 Squadron when discharged in September 1945. Also, he had a DFC.

    Thanks Jack.

My main interst is in the New Zealanders on board. The initials for Macdonald, if anyone knows of them, would be most welcome.

Wondering if anyone going to TNA at Kew during the next few days might have time to check out the ORB for No.4 OTU on my behalf.

I'm seeking the list of all the crew on ML737/R that sank U-675 on 24 May 1944 (it seems that there may have been more than just the two RNZAF members listed above).

Also of interest is the crew of the 4OTU Sunderland that on 21 May 1944 attacked and damaged U-995.

Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

    Hello Errol

    Re the attack on U-995 by DV197 ‘S’ of 4(C)OTU on 21 May 1944

All I can find for crew is in ‘Search Find and Kill’ which shows:-

    P/O E T King, Pilot
    F/O S Pearce, Nav
    W/Co A Whitmore, Passenger
    (rest of crew unknown)
    and with the following comment:
“4(C)OTU flew operational sorties in support of normal Coastal operations, a trainee crew generally under the experienced eye of a former operational pilot who was now instructing. King and crew were later posted to 490 Squadron.”

BTW in my earlier post showing 4(C)OUT in error, this was because MS Word automatically changes OTU to OUT which I hadn’t noticed before sending. I spotted it this time. Thanks again Bill Gates.

    Cheers
    Richard

    Richard,

"MS Word automatically changes OTU to OUT"

Can be cured by deleting OTU to OUT from the AutoCorrect.

I wonder if Franks checked the ORB for the OTU?
