Default No 4 Advance Flying Unit

I am working on the service history of a WWII RAAF navigator. He is discharged from the service in October 1945 while at No 4 AFU.

Where was No.4 Advance Flying Unit based in the UK during 1945?
Was there a RAAF No.4 Advance Flying Unit based in Australia during the same period?

    Thank you

It seems strange that an Australian was discharged in the UK. However, in 1943 he married a WAAF from Newcastle, a son born Dec 1945, wife and son sail to Australia March 1946. But no sign of RAAF navigator which makes me think he was already in Australia before March 1946.

    Hi Norman

4 (O) AFU was at West Freugh and disbanded on 21 Jun 1945.

Norman, the posting at discharge is misleading because it mostly refers to the last unit the airman attended. I should have known where 4 AFU was located. I only had to look in my log book to see that I completed the course in June 1944 at West Freugh.

There is no doubt that F/O Durham was discharged in Australia.

Malcolm, thank you for the information.

Jack, thank you for the information. I have ordered his service record from NAA but it could be up to 90 days.
