Default Unaccounted airman - 7-6-1942 (Middle East)

Looking for the serial number of a Hurricane of 73 Sqn (Gambut Main) shot down by an enemy aircraft, killing F/Lt Charles T. CANTRILL - RCAF C/1210, commemorated on the Alamein Memorial.
    Regards,
    Henk.

The ORB appendices have combat report that lists 12 a/c on the 0930 fighter sweep,

The theres 12 names also, and comparing these names to the 73 Sqn ORB which like others on tha tday at least does not list Cantrill in the Record of events.

    Jun Events: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/D8453671

    1940-1946 Appendices: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C2503275

Six names match up to the 73 Sqn Record of Events, and the order of the aircraft S/N's also match, thus based on the Combat report, page 233 of the appendix Cantrill may have been in Hurricane BM330

His service file scanned on Ancestry.com barely mentions his loss, makes me think it isn't completely scanned.

    Dennis,

The ancestry version of the RCAF KIA files were not completely scanned. None of them.

As a test, have a look at J88345 P/O Robert James Atkins on ancestry. 60 pages. Same test here: https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discov...IdNumber=1058& will give you all 304 pages; including the document on page 234, a telegram from squadron to the Air Ministry with all sorts of data.

One would think the LAC and ancestry would have left that page in. Names and addresses of next of kin of the full crew and all the toys and trinkets aboard each aircraft. Alas not.

    Regards,

    Dave

    Dennis,
Can you recheck the serial BM330 you quoted for the Hurricane please? It doesn't seem to be valid.
    Thanks,
    Andy
