    Hi All,

    F/LT VACLAV JICHA. 66486 RAFVR D.F.C & A.F.C (K)

Can anyone tell me how this Czech pilot earned his awards. I searched LG but can seem to find any mention of him.

Any help would be very much appreciated as always.

    Regards
    Dave.

    Hi Dave,
Was awarded his DFC for his excellent operational duty 29th Setember 1942.
The AFC was awarded on 28th November 1945 in memoriam for his excellent and very useful non operational duty as test pilot. This from Biography by Pavel Vancata site is as follows; http://cz-raf.hyperlink.cz/Bio/Jicha.html
    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Rob Jerram.

    Hi Dave,

first of all info about LG - there i NO war decoration to any of Czechoslovak pilots in the LG - from security reasons to protect relatives in occupied home country.

Otherwise Rob is correct - DFC for duty with 17 and 313 Sq, AFC as testing pilot of Spitfiores in Bromwich - he several times made successful belly landing when the plane has some defect instead of baling out so this helps much to find the problem.

If any more details are necessary please feel free to contact me.

    Good Morning Rob & Pavel,

Knew I could rely on you guys to help me out, what you gave me is great just what I was looking for, and I see now why he and others are not on the LG, I expect the same can be said for other countrymen French, Belgian, Poles etc.

    Thanks again Guys.

    Regards
    Dave.

    Hello all,

Should be mentioned that Vaclav Jicha was awarded French awards (Croix de Guerre, Medaille Militaire) as well during Battle of France when fighting with GC I/6. The award of Medaille Militaire (August 3, 1940) was only recently discovered in French archives and first mentioned in Jiri Rajlich work Na nebi sladke Francie (2008) ISBN 978-80-86808-51-2.

    Regards David
