Assume that BURSON, CHERRY and PRESTON were on EF967 together with the Canadians HOPE and MENZIES.

Names matching the Canadians are registered in Aylesbury district. Dave you ought to order their service records to complete the information, possible you'd turn up a Form 765 or something useful.

    Default More missing aircrew Buckinghamshire

    Dennis,

I think you`re spot on again with these airmen, Preston was indeed the pilot as I have him on the 1180, here is my entry for the crash log comnpilation:

    EF967

    42 O T U (GO-)

    ASHBOURNE

    22/2/44.

ABOVE LEYLANDS FARM, ASTON CLINTON, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE.

A/c on cross country exercise crashed into a hill in a snowstorm whilst descending through cloud to pinpoint position, 30 miles of intended track over unknown country.Time of accident was 11.30 hrs. All 5 crew were killed. Engines Cheetah IX 272196 & 272197. Aircraft was Cat.E. but No fire had occurred. A mistake on the 1180 gives LF967 for this aircraft. The Pilot Sgt Preston had flown 37 hrs type. 441 total. He hailed from Wykes Green,Middlesex he was buried Halton (St.Michael) Churchyard.Buckinhamshire. F/O
Menzies was from Pratt,Manitoba,Canada, he is buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery,Woking,Surrey. F/O Hope from Yellow Grass,Saskatchewan,Canada, is also buried in Brookwood.

PILOT: SGT WALTER EDWARD PRESTON. 1319651. RAFVR. (K)
NAV: F/O JAMES ARCHIBALD MENZIES. J/27804. RCAF. (K)
OBS: F/O DONALD JOHN HOPE. J/11631. RCAF. (K)

Thanks also Henk, as you will see I had the two Canadians from the `They Shall Grow Not Old` book, a discrepency in this book says under the entry for Menzies that EF967 was a Wellington, but has Anson listed under Hope`s name.

    Thanks again.

    Regards
    Dave.
