    Default 42 OTU - 38 Group

    Hello,

Some casualties of crashes from 42 OTU in 1944 seem to have been forgotten in the 38 Group Roll of Honour.
Different sources give two dates for the transfer of 42 OTU from 70 Group to 38 Group:
    On 1st September 1943 or on 1st November 1943.
    42 OTU's disbandment was on 20 March 1945.
In my files, I didn't find any transfer of 42 OTU in an other Raf Group than 38 Group between the end of 1943 and the start of 1945.
Can somebody tells me if I forgot a 42 OTU transfer in an other RAF Group in 1944?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    hello Bruno,

"R.A.F. Flying training and support units since 1942" says No. 42 O.T.U. was formed 18.7.41 under No. 70 Group, Army Co-Operation Command at Andover. [...]
5.43 role changed to trainingcrews for glider towing squadrons in No. 38 Wing/Group., receiving Whitleys for this purpose. [...] 43 to No. 38 Groupn establishment 30+10 Albemarle/Whitley, 8+3 Anson, 4+1 Martinet, 2+0 Horsa.

Hope this helps (unless this was already one of your source...)

    Bruno,

A small but significant piece of info was missed by Joss, namely Sturtivant's date for when the OTU was transfered to No.38 Group. HEee it is:

    1.11.43 to No. 38 Group establishment 30+10 Albemarle/Whitley, 8+3 Anson, 4+1 Martinet, 2+0 Horsa, etc

    hello,

Errol is right, I don't understand why this information is missing from my post. Finger trouble... I remember typing it with the little finger of my right hand though !

I would have spotted it and edited it but thanks to Errol.

    Sorry for that

    Joss

    Errol, Joss,

As usual I greatly thank you for your help.
7 airmen will so be added to the 38 Group Roll of Honour (2 more airmen's names have to be confirmed).

    Regards.
