    Default Unaccounted airman - 21-7-1942 - Middle East/Mediterranean

Looking for the correct serial number of a Spitfire on which Sgt Lewis EVANS - 1212800 was lost over the Mediterranean. His name is on the Malta Air Forces Memorial (Panel 3 - Column 2). In "Malta: The Spitfire Year 1942" (Shores/Cull/Malizia) is mentioned on page 424 that he was lost over sea taking off from HMS Eagle on Spitfire EP378. This serial however was never allotted to any aircraft.

    Regards,
    Henk.

    Hi Henk
The later book "Spitfires over Malta" by Cull and Galea gives the a/c as"(possibly EP703)". It suggests that there was still some doubt when Brian Cull produced the revised book.

Thanks Dick. Sgt Evans' name sofar will remain on the unaccounted list as Spitfire EP703 - according to Air Britain - was SOC 10-11-1946 with 73 OTU.
    Regards,
    Henk.
