Default Halifax crash, North Africa, Wg Cdr Warner

Does anyone know details of a 462 Sqn Halifax II crash on 14 January 1943 in which the CO, Wg Cdr P.G.B. WARNER was killed. From usual searches, I have discovered the following details:

Pilot: 84972 Wing Commander Peter George Batty WARNER (formerly flight commander of 76 Sqn Middleton-St George) Killed 14 Jan 1943 post El Alamein Operation/Battle ? He took command of 462 (RAAF) Squadron one year before on 14 Jan 1942

I am a little confused as I have been unable to connect any Australian crew to this squadron while understanding it was a RAAF squadron. Also, I believe 462 was formed from one flight each of 10 and 76 Squadrons somewhere in North Africa - Egypt? I am assuming it was not in Bomber Command. Any information with circumstances leading up to the crash will be greatfully received. Thank you
