Default Collision Over Abingdon - 9.11.35

    Hi all,

P/O Alexander Ross, along with Sgt Pilot Parke and LAC J Waugh, was killed in a collision between two aircraft of No. 40 squadron over Abingdon on 9th November 1935. I would like confirmation that the aircraft involved were Hart K4371 and Gordon K2720 - and who was flying in these aircraft?

    many thanks

    David Molyneux

    David,

As recorded in the appendices of David Gunby's excellent 40 Sqn history, 'Sweeping the Skies':

    9 Nov 35
    Cardington-Abingdon
After breaking formation, No.2 of the Hart section climbed and dived and turned 180 deg and flew into a Gordon of the section following.

    Fairey Gordon I K2720
    Sgt W. Park - killed

    Hawker Hart (Special) K4371
    F/O A. Ross - killed
    LAC J. Waugh - killed

A fuller account of the accident appears on p92.

    Errol,

Thanks for the information - that's another item cleared from the list, which hopefully is no where near as long as Henk's.
