Amrit,
The closest AFL I have is that for Oct 1946.
No Austin-Clarke therein but found:
112537 Austin, W A (released)
184512 Austin, W A (Fg Off 10 Feb 45)
One of whom might be your man?
Errol
If someone has a copy of the 1945 Air Force list could they lookup a name please:
William Jabez Austin-Clarke.
Maybe down as just William Austin-Clarke.
He should be a F/Lt there abouts. What I really want is a service number .
Thank you

Thank you, Errol. Just checked the LG but neither number matches my man. The reason I asked:
http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/Selby-39Dambuster39-dies-at-88.5656223.jp
He's not in the ORB nor in the 74 Sqdn history but I did find him in Flight magazine linked to the Inspectorate of Radio Services (as mentioned in the article).
I just can't find him in the LG

There is also a 133479 W.A. Clarke in the Oct 45 List, however no Austin-Clarkes,
Thanks for looking jonny. Afraid that's another whose ID doesn't matchup.
This is becoming rather intriguing.

Try

Amrit,
If you go here there is a profile with a colour photo:
http://www.forcesreunited.org.uk/names/210113/William%28Bill%29_Austin-Clarke
I do not know what medal the ribbon is for.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Brian and Dave. The medal in the picture linked by Dave looks like the 1939-45 Star.
In my "Bar tp medals thread" Hugh stated that:
"A person awarded a decoration would be entitled to wear the ribbon of that medal from the moment that he was informed of said award (usually the day of gazetting, sometimes a day or two before). This matter of wearing a ribbon before getting the medal extended even to campaign stars which had been approved, notably the 1939-1943 Star (later renamed 1939-1945)."
That means that the photo could have been taken from 1943 onwards.
Unfortunately, I still can't find him in the LG. Is getting annoying.
Thanks for everyones help

Hi
I'm new to this forum but by chance and searching on the internet for something totally unrelated, I found that someone was researching/looking for details about my late father.
I would be obliged if you would email me direct and maybe, when I find the purpose for the research I may be able to help you
Regards
Paul

Amrit
Thankyou for your communication
I can confirm the following 24/7/44 Flight engineer Stirlings
10/08/44 Flight engineer Lancasters
Flight Engineer on all mark of Lancasters 05/05/44
My fathers service number was at this time 1199323 and was known as Sgt AWJ Clarke
Then sometime in 1947 he changed his name to incorporate his mothers maiden name and thats when he became William Jabez Austin-Clarke and became Flying officer. His Service number then changed sometime in 1946/47 to 190358
Promoted to Pilot Officer 03/12/44
promoted to Flying Officer 03/6/45
Extended service commision granted 04/11/46
Substansive Flying Officer 07/6/46
The peice in the paper about 74 squadron is I think a mistake as my father was adjutant at Little Rissington on 90 " Tiger " Squadron with Gloucester Meteors.
The confusion may have arisen with his breif stay in 74 Squadron in November 1945 at Colerne
I hope this is enough information for you to be going on with if you require any more help or information do not hesitate to contact me
Regards
Paul
