    Default 420812 - Unaccounted airmen - 12-8-1942

    What were the places of death registration for:

    A - Died on active service:
    AC2 Thomas S. TABERNER - 1551839, and
    Cpl William WILLIAMS - 621470.

    B - Sgt Alexander COOKE - 1378672 (found a Sgt A. COOKE as MiA in Communiqué 203 Flight 25-2-1943, but don't think this is the Sgt Cooke I'm looking for).

    C - Proposed aircraft losses:
    Havoc I - AW409 - 51 OTU - flew into ground at night Elveden, Suffolk (alrerady as a casualty on this a/c: Sgt [Pilot] A.L. OSBORNE - 1291134).
    Havoc II - BB903 - TFU - overshot landing Defford.
    Oxford I - AT738 - 3 (P)AFU - crashed on take-off at night South Cerney (already as a casualty on this a/c: Sgt [Pilot] D.C. COLLINS - 1381601).

    Hi Henk

    AC2 Thomas S. TABERNER - I have him as a possible for Wellington VIII, T2919 flew into high ground at Coal Hill in County Londonderry.

    Cpl William WILLIAMS - Wrexham

    Sgt Alexander COOKE - There is a 30 year old one registered in Cambridge

    Hi Henk
    2 possible William Williams(a common name).On CWGC he is aged 30 and buried in Kirkham, Lancashire, one posibility was age 28, registered at Fylde, Lancashire which has Kirkham in it's area. The other was age 30, registered at Wrexham, Flintshire.
    Alexander Cooke, 30, registered at Cambridge
    Taberner didn't come up but CWGC has him buried in Aberdeenshire, Scotland

    There is a Thomas Stephen Taberner age 21 registered in Aberdeen district, Aberdeen during 1942.

    Dick: You mention Wrexham in Flintshire; James Halley in his "The Squadrons of the RAF" mentions in the 'Index of Locations' Wrexham in Denbighshire.

    I've removed Taberner as a possible for T2919.

    Wrexham was in Denbighshire

    From 1652 C.U. ORB.
    12 Aug 42
    1551839 AC2 Taberner T.S., F/MA. of 1652 Con Unit died in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a result of a road accident while on Pass. Next of Kin present and funeral arranged privately.

    Cooke came up on Airforce Deaths

    He was originally listed along with 3 others wounded in relation to the 99 Sqn Wellington II W5436 LN-X which crashed at 0200 on 29 Sept 1941 near Manor Lane, Horringer, Suffolk

    Aeroplane Magazine carried Service Numbers

    WOUNDED OR INJURED IN ACTION

    537373 F/S Sgt R H F Gill
    1378672 Sgt A. Cooke
    1051617 Sgt W Paxton

    Paxton died later, Cooke later still, only Gill survived but even he was badly injured, 3 other crew died at scene

    Circumstances of Death: Lost in aircraft Unidentified. Aircraft Accident during War Operations. His death was registered in Limavady District and the attached extract from Register of Deaths indicates that he died when an aircraft from RAF Limavady crashed. (via Nigel Henderson)
