    Default Mosquito NS859 613Sqn 1.3.45

    Hi,

I'm looking for the cause of the following loss:

    1. Mar 1945
    613 Sqn 2nd TAF
    Mosquito VI NS859 SY-
    Op: Hannover/Hildesheim
    F/L Pilot G F Coward RCAF
    +, 19.A.2-3
    W/O Navigator F S Wilsher
    +, 19.A.2-3

The Mosquito crashed 0430 at Bollersen 4km SSE of Bergen. Both airmen were first buried in Bergen Cemetery. Now they rest in Becklingen War Cemetery.

    Many thanks in advance

    regards

    Steve

    G'day Steve

"They Shall Not Grow Old" has the pair being killed in action while attacking a railroad in northern Germany. Due to the number of errors in the book, I would not rely on it as a sole soure of information.

    Cheers...Chris

    Hi Chris,

there were two important railroads in the vicinity of Bollersen. Celle-Munster and Celle-Soltau. Possible the Mosquito attacked some train or troop transport in this area.

But the cause of loss is still unknown. The parts of the Mosquito were spread over a wide area. Only single body parts were found. The Luftgau XI reports that the Mosquito dismantled in the air.

    regards

    Steve
