    Default A1C Moran Allan 623447

    Hello ,
    Aircraftman 1st Class Moran Allan John RAF 25/06/1940 623447 is buried at the Lombardsijde Churchyard in Belgium . Was he killed in a flying accident ?

    Its not the answer but he is listed as unit "HQ 51 Wing" in the UK GRO list of RAF Overseas War Deaths.

    His name is listed simply as "missing" in the Flight magazine archives, dated Sep 5th, 1940.

    51 Wing was an Army Co-Operation HQ around that time.
    He is then listed as "Previously Reported Missing, Presumed Killed on Active Service" Magazine dated Feb 13th 1941, but they spelled his name as Morn

    A further entry in Flight Archives corrects his name as "Previously Reported Missing, Presumed Killed on Active Service" Magazine dated Feb 20th 1941, they dropped the last digit of his service number in that print.

    Alain/Dennis,
    MORAN may have been a casualty of the S.S. Lancastria, sunk 17-6-1940. Info AHB/RAF: 25th June 1940 was a "sweeping up date" that was used as all land warfare had ceased by that date and troops withdrawn.

    Other deaths that date on Runnymede and buried in France are affiliated to a Squadron but are also LAC - Sgt rank in most cases.
