The writer of the programme also wrote this newspaper article:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1222565/He-shot-hero-Great-Escape-cold-blood-But-NAZI-DIDNT-deserve-hang.html

Alieneyes and I discussed the article elsewhere, especially how the author has misquoted Schulz to make him look like a more sympathetic character.

I hope the program is better than the newspaper article - though from the trailers that I have seen it looks to rely on the docudrama style that seems so much in vogue at the moment.

Well, here we are only 20 mins into the program and already two commercial breaks, even though it's commercial telly, they could have at least had two half hour parts considering the historical importance of the program.

Well, after watching the whole program, pretty dissapointed. Not a lot condensed into one program, could have been more informative on what happened to the rest of the fifty instead of concentrating on just a couple of them, should have taken up a few more programmes but obviously not as interesting as the divorce of a recent (so called celebrity) couple. But thats my cynical opinion.

Very disappointing. Very superficial and repeated the same guff about Schulz as the above article. Played on the viewers emotions by using Schulz's daughter as one of the central interviewees, even though the amount of time focussed on her was well out of proportion to the scope of the programme. Considering that 50 POWs were shot the programme makers made minimal (virtually none) efforts of tracking down and interviewing their families.

For those who missed it you can watch it on CH4's catchup service online (available for the next 30 days, but I don't whether people outside the UK will be able to view it)

    Default The Great Escape.

Yes, I agree with previous comments.

The only interesting moment for me was to get a brief glimpse of the photos of Roger Bushell, which I hadn't seen before.

I have to confess that I dislike drama doctumentaries. Too much speculation.
