    Default No. 619 Sqn Lancaster SW254 - 10Apr 1945

    Hi All,

Does anyone have any specific information about this loss, other than the basic details from Chorley? I have a request from someone whose uncle was killed on this one.

She also tells me that some have questioned why the crew were all commissioned officers.

There is a PoW listed, H.J. Burke, who is named in Ross's PoW database but no details of his history in captivity. Another source says he was wounded and confined in the Netherlands until liberated by the Allies.

    Default 619 Sqn

    Hi David,

Theo Boiten lists this bomber as shot down by either Hptm Ernst-Georg Drunkler of 1./NJG5 or Oblt Gunter Bertram of 4./NJG100 both are listed in Theo's book as 630 Sqn but the number of the aircraft is the same.

Surviving crew felt they had bee hit by Flak. I'll send Theo an email to correct this Sqn error for his second edition.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    John.

Thanks John. Where did you get the info about the surviving crew? This could only have been an interview with Burke, so I assume it was also from Theo's data?

Also, could Burke have been mistaken and it was actually a Schrage Musik attack? The crews knew about SM at this late date, didn't they? You would think the fellow would know the difference between flying through flak (there would have to have been other bursts about) and suddenly being shot up.

Does anyone know where I could get more details about the raid and does anyone have the ORBs for 619 Sqn?

    Hello,

I have not Chorley's book covering the year of the war, but I think you speak about the
    crew of F/L McMorran ??
His brother was lost on 7 March 1945 on a raid to Harburg...
Do you have any informations on them ?

    Thank you !

    Hello Alain,

Yes, I noticed that the brother was lost a month earlier from the same squadron. Such a shame. I have told the person enquiring about that and the fact that she can request the Canadian records to learn more about her uncle, who was RAF.

And thanks John, I look forward to hearing if Theo has anything to add.

you could also try asking the Australian Archives for a copy of Jackson's Casualty File to be digitised too - there maybe something in there.

Thanks John, that would be wonderful if you could.

The woman who is asking, is the niece of the other Jackson on the flight, F/L Frank Jackson, RAF.

    Hello,

Would be possible to contact the niece of Franck Jackson ??
Could be interesting for my research on 619 squadron.
    Thank you.
