    Default John Hopeshaw Haigh 3-1-43

What caused the death of Flying Officer John Hopeshaw Haigh 61246.
He was with 80 Sqdn at the time of his Death on 03 Jan 1943.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on The ALAMEIN MEMORIAL Column 268.
I have checked the ORB and there is no mention of his loss.
He did fly with the Squadron 2 days earlier.
He was listed in The Times 2.2.43 and 23.3.43 as Missing.
He is listed as Previosly posted as Missing now presumed Killed on Active Service in The Times 28.10.43.
    Thanks

    Hi Andy,

I had a look through Strike True the story of 80 Squadron by Chris Shores. In the casualty list at the back of the book there is no mention of your man, plus there is no reference to him in the text. Indeed there does not seem to be any casualties for 1943.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

    Hello Andy,

I've found few details about 1st Jan 1943, told by a person who was with 80 Sqdn.

fwiw, his birth was registered in Wetherby in Sep 1919 as John H S Haigh, parents Richard Haigh and Hope Garnett (Murton) - marr. 1917. He had a brother Richard M b 1918 and sister Hope V Haigh b 1921, possibly more siblings.

It seems likely his younger sister died in Dorset in 2005.
