    Hi Pieter,

214 Sqn, take your pick. It all depends when in 1940:

    W/Cdr W. Sanderson November 1938
    W/Cdr F.E. Nuttall February 1940
    W/Cdr G.H. Loughnan October October 1940

    Beste Pieter,

According to Martyn Ford-Jones' "Oxford's Own", XV Sqdn's CO from 21.12.39 to 02.06.40 was S/L (promoted to WC 01.01.40) Ralph W. Lywood.

Your target date 10.05.40 makes me wonder what the object of your current research is.

    Best regards,

    Hans

    Thanks a lot guys!

(Hans, 10-5-40 being the launch of the attack in the West is my main interest and reference date.
Problem is that many overviews are either for 1-9-39 (start of the war) or around July-August 1940 (start of the BoB).
Therefore my struggle. Help from all of you much appreciated).

    More to follow ;-)

    Default 4 Gp CO's

    Hi Pieter

Again from Falconer's "Bomber Command Handbook 1939-1945":

    10 Sqn - W/C N C Singer (4/40 - 7/40). (Says Staton was CO from 6/38 to 4/40).
    51 Sqn - W/C A H Owen (3/40 - 10/40)
    58 Sqn - W/C J J A Sutton (2/40 - 11/40)
    77 Sqn - W/C C H Appleton (11/39 - 6/40). (Says MacDonald took over in 6/40, until 8/40).
    78 Sqn - W/C M Wiblin (1/40 - 2/41)
    102 Sqn - W/C C F Toogood (10/38 - 5/40) or maybe W/C S R Groom (5/40 - 1/41). (Precise date of handover in May '40 not given).

    Hope this helps.

... Bring on the next one! :-)

    Default 5 Gp CO's

    HI Pieter

OK. Since you insist, and once again from The BC Handbook ...

    44 Sqn - W/C D W Reid (3/40 - 3/41)
    49 Sqn - W/C J W Gillan (4/40 - 12/40)
    50 Sqn - W/C R T Taafe (4/40 - 6/40)
    61 Sqn - W/C G H Sheen (5/40 - 11/40) (or possibly W/C F M Denny, 2/40 - 5/40)
    83 Sqn - W/C J C Sisson? (dates not given, so possibly W/C L S Snaith who was in command from 10/39 until ...?. Sisson was followed by W/C D A Boyle in 12/40)
106 Sqn - Had been a training squadron and only became operational in September 40. No CO's name given prior to 4/41.
    144 Sqn - W/C R B Jordan (9/39 - 5/40) or possibly W/C A N Luxmoore (+ 12/5/40), or W/C J J Watts (5/40 - 6/40).

    Hope this helps again

    Cheers

    Ian
