Default Bomber squadrons on 23/24 Feb 1941

    Hi all,

could anybody help me with following identification:

On return from air raid on 23/24 Feb 1941 Wellington of New Zealand-Squadron from Feltwell and Blenheim from Watton piloted by F/L. Barker landed in East Wretham.

Would be possible to get more information about this two planes and their crews?
I suppose the first can be a plane from No. 75 SQ?

    TIA

    Pavel

No problem Steve, just want to keep it in your mind:-) There is no rush with this matter, I am just worried that I will forget it myself:-)

    Pavel,
According to 75 Sqn ORB for operations on night of 23/24 Feb 1941, a total of eight Wellington Ics were despatched from Feltwell for individual attacks on Bologne (seem to be mostly on docks and port area generally). All aircraft departed Feltwell between 1850 - 1910, and landed 2140 - 2305. I have names of all aircraft and crews, but none reported as landing at East Wretham, or anywhere else for that matter. Navigation that night was by map reading, D/R and pin-points. Three a/c failed to locate the target (presume brought bombs home), other five bombed the docks or "target area". "A number of parachute flares seen shot up on coast near Calais. A/A fire was intense and accurate. S/Ls were numerous in target area. One E/A seen . 8 - 10/10 cloud seen in target area." As you can see, eight aircraft basically on individual attacks, all returned to base in a window of 1 hour, 25 minutes, which was not unusual. Possible that one aircraft could have landed away briefly, but no mention in ORB.
