    Peter

The Scottish death register records that he was found dead in a crashed aeroplane 200 yds W of Home Farm of Feur* Forfar Parish. The informant was Surgeon Lt/Com Mather of RNAS Montrose.

*last word is difficult to read.

I have only one a/c incident that might fit, the loss of Hurricane P3422, according to ABS, with 229 Squadron, at that time based at Speke. ABS does not give the crash site of this a/c.

Do you have any more info re Holmes such as his unit?

    regards

    Hi Dave,

    Many thanks for the details.

Sorry to say I have no more details regarding Holmes, apart that he was 36 when he was killed, and just a little on the early service life.

    Regards
    Peter

Sturtivant's FAA Aircraft has no accident listed for N5545, nor is Holmes lsited in the index for any FAA aircraft

I don't recall the feedback item, and the serial of the Gladiator is not in my tables. It was Peter's post which prompted me to look at the death register.

    regards
