Hi Henk,

Master II - DL128 - 17 (P)AFU - collided with Master DL342 while changing formation; abandoned and crashed , Quanea Hill, 1½ mile E of Ely, Cambridge.
Master II - DL342 - 17 (P)AFU - refer to Master DL128.

Both sgt pilots, flying solo abandoned by parachute. No reported injuries.

P/O (Pilot) James D. CRABBE - 119539 - the Graves Registration Report Form lists his unit as 7 (P) A.F.U., so possibly linked to Master DL401?

S/Ldr (Pilot) David J. HAMILTON - 72160 - the Graves Registration Report Form lists his unit as 1 C.A.C.U. - was he in Spitfire P8333? A.S.N. reckons so (usual caveats etc)

AC1 Eric J. TAUNTON - 1196524 - the Western Morning News of November 11th 1942 reported the following:

CADET IS FOUND DEAD
Tragic Inquest Story At Sidmouth
Evidence that he worried about a brother who was a prisoner of war, fearing that he would be put into chains, was given at the inquest yesterday on Eric John Taunton, aged 21, a cadet, who was found shot through the head at a Sidmouth hotel lavatory on Monday morning.
The Coroner (Mr. C. N. Tweed) returned a verdict that death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head while the balance of the mind was disturbed. He expressed sympathy with the parents.

John Percival Oxenbury 365571, was on duty at his Bofors gun , deployed near Eye on anti diver duties , when a Bofors shell fired by another battery exploded in the gun pit seriously injuring him, he was admitted to the Royal East Sussex hospital in Hastings where he died the following day

He couldn't have been on 'anti-diver' duties in 1942 as the first V1 (Diver) wasn't launched until 13 Jun 1944

It also seems strange that he was admitted to a hospital in Hastings when Eye is just outside Peterborough?

Good point . He was definitely killed this way poor chap . But I wonder if I read across to some info from the next batch I’m going through from my old notes as to location and details . I’ll check ! That’s for checking as ever

Hi Malcolm . It’s RYE not Eye . 1 flight at map 347382 . 2 flight at 35437 , 3 flight at 352442 . Predictive again . HOWEVER :
