Default No. 1 Sqn RCAF squadron badge

There is a post on BoB forum by a fellow who needs to know if there was a Squadron badge for No. 1 RCAF Sqn, prior to the badge it received as the renamed 401 Sqn in March 1941.

Does anyone know how to track this one down?

"RCAF Squadron Histories and Aircraft 1924-68" by Kostenuk and Griffin

This book provides separate brief histories for different phases of each RCAF sqn's existence so there is a history of 1Sqn in Canada and a separate history as 1/401Sqn in Europe. The Canadian history does not include a sqn badge but the European history does include the badge with the mountain sheep's head. The book states on page XV that:

"Details of unit badges - motto, authority and description - are from official sources, chiefly Air Force Administrative Order 62.00/02 App C."

It would seem from this that 1Sqn did not have a badge.

Thanks Steve. I also sent an e-mail to Dakota to see what he has on file but this is what I suspected.

    Dakota's response:

"No badge for No. 1 (F) Squadron. The badge for No. 401 'Ram' (F) Squadron was approved by King George VI sometime in September of 1944."

Thanks Chris, I have passed the info on.
