    Hi All

    This officer was killed on 20 Jan 1944, but does anyone know the circumstances?

    Malcolm,

    His death is registered at Cheltenham and I can offer as a possible cause the loss of 60 OTU Magister R1955 which crashed at Nottingham Hill, Woodmancote on 20/1/1944.

    That sounds highly probable as he was killed in the Cheltenham area and he was flying to visit his father who was terminally ill.

    I have found 2 entries for this person in the online London Gazette one for June 1942 issue 35592 page 2555 this was when he was gazetted from LAC to pilot officer (temp) and november 1942 issue 35791 page 5042 where he was promoted to flying officer (temp).

    Hi Malcolm,

    No.60 OTU ORB has:

    20th Jan
    F/O G F Deakin - Flying Instructor - crashed near Stoke Orchard in Magister R1955 and was killed. He was returning from Lee on Solent and the cause of the crash is unknown.
