LAC RONALD A Simpson 1498390, aged 19, is listed in the Service and War Return Minor Section of the Scottish death register. The register records that he was killed in an a/c accident in Cardigan Bay on the 14th.

As it is now in my files for Anson DJ628 of 9 (O)AFU - rapid change of weather conditions; did not react to cancel mission given 0250; last RT 0132; lost over sea approx 4 miles NW off Penrhos (was this Carmarthen Bay ?). Crew: BLAKEMORE - CHARMAN - CAIRNS (all three on the Runnymede Memorial), MALLETT (death registered Anglesey West), SIMPSON (found washed ashore 19-11-1942 near Porth Colmon).

    Oops!

I should have written Cardigan Bay, I will amend my post. Penrhos is at the northern end of it.

Sydney Trout was a prewar member of both 56 and 54 Sqns. He bailed out of a Siskin of 56 Sqdn at Brentwood, Essex. The aircraft had an engine failure night flying on 7th April 1928 (Siskin ID unknown as yet any ideas?) and became a member of the International Caterpillar Club at that time he was either Sgt or Flt Sgt Sydney Trout with service number #353148.
As stated on this posting Trout killed as Flying Instructor and Flying Officer #89310 aged 38 on 14/11/1942 in Tiger Moth K4261 of 14 EFTS which crashed Lindridge Field, Hall Farm, near Desford. This aircraft is supposed to have collided with Tiger Moth T6288 (which was OK as SOC 25.5.50) - Also possibly killed in this incident and maybe on the same aircraft was Ty/Act/Leading Airman Cyril Laurence Edelman aged 20 - FX90881 Royal Navy H.M.S. Daedalus, Lee on Solent Naval Air Station. Who is adjacent to Trout on the death register. I do not know if he was on the same aircraft as Trout or the other aircraft. There are supposed to be 2 killed in this incident. The issue is the SOC date of T6288

Can someone please look up Tiger Moth T6288 in the Air Britian serials and tell me the units it served with ? it may also be naval aircraft?

    Thanks

    Paul

    Paul,
T6288: 1 EFTS - 7 EFTS - 2 EFTS - RAFC. Ldg Airman Cyril L. EDELMAN is NOT in the Sturtivant casualty list. I've a note that Edelman "died of wounds or injuries received on active service".
    Regards,
    Henk.
